Dateline: Bethlehem.  "Virgin Gives Birth"

For 19 years Walter Cronkite anchored the news desk every weekday evening on CBS.  He was there when JFK was shot.  We listened to him every evening as he told us about the war in Viet Nam, the Democratic convention in Chicago, the riots in Detroit, and a strange music festival called Woodstock.  We were glued to the TV screen in the summer of 1969 as he told us all about the first two men to walk on the moon.  When Iran took our citizens hostage he told us how they were doing and when the scandal called Watergate broke he told us all about the that.

He was called the most trusted man in America.  We believed what he told us every day because of his honesty, his integrity, his passion for truth, and his ability to tell the story.  At the end of every newscast we remember he would always say, "And that's the way it is…"

Today I want to tell why it makes just as much sense to believe in the reports we have in this book about a man who was born some 2000 years ago in a most remarkable way.  This man, whose mother was a young woman named Mary, had no earthly father.  Mary was a virgin – having never been with a man.

This week we're going to look at why we can believe and trust that this story is a true narrative of history.  In the coming weeks we'll look at the sinless life of Jesus, his resurrection, and his ascension to glory at the right hand of our Father God.

See you Sunday!

Rick

The MCC Cross-Cultural Evangelism Team is planning two missions trips for the summer of 2011: one to work at TCMI in Vienna and one to go to Haiti.

If you'd like more information about the Vienna trip, you can contact Randy Rhodes (627.5780).

If you'd like more information about the Haiti trip, Tom and Sharon Snivley are hosting two presentations, on Wednesday, September 1 at 7:00 p.m. and on Sunday, September 12 after the Celebration Service, both will be at the MCC building.  Contact Tom and Sharon (627.5457) for more information about this trip.

The MCC Women's Ministry is hosting an event to kick off their fall season.  This will be an evening of fun and a chance to get to know each other better.  The event will include dinner, and will be held Friday, September 10 at 6:30 p.m. in the Auditorium.  You can sign up at the Information Counter in the lobby on Sunday mornings.

Join other women from MCC as they participate in this event featuring Beth Moore.  You'll experience fun-filled Bible study, teaching, and worship!  The event will be held Saturday, September 18 from 10:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at South Church in Lansing.  Tickets are $10, checks can be made out to South Church and given to Sharon Snivley or Donna Stacy.  Sign up at the Information Counter on Sunday mornings.  Contact Sharon Snivley (627.5457) if you have any questions.

New to MCC?  You've probably introduced yourself to us, now it's our turn!  Take the Second Step by joining us at the next Second Step Reception!  Join us in the Cafe on Sunday, September 19 from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. and learn all about the mission, vision, core values, and ministries of Meridian Christian Church.  You'll meet some of the staff and learn how you can be a part of the MCC family!  Sign up online and Welcome Home!

Photo directories are available! The Summer 2010 MCC Photo Directories are now available at the Information Counter, or you can email the MCC office (office@meridianchristian.org) for a PDF version.

If you've been looking for a place to get involved serving others and building up the family here at MCC, here are a few opportunities!

Aquarium Maintenance We're looking for a few volunteers who would be willing to help maintain our aquarium to keep our fish and coral happy!

Chair Team Our facility is designed to be multi-use, to maximize our efficiency! That means we need to set up and tear down the chairs in the auditorium each week, transforming it into open space for other activities. If you enjoy task-oriented, behind-the-scenes service, this is a great opportunity! You would work every other Saturday afternoon for 45 minutes.

Cleaning Team We rely on unpaid servants for the regular cleaning and maintenance of our new building. If you would take pride in keeping our home in good shape, this is a great way to serve the MCC family!  A variety of tasks are available.

Children's Ministry There are numerous opportunities to serve our children, not just teaching! If you love kids and want to serve, let's talk!

Coffee Team Want to make people REALLY happy? Help make coffee for our Sunday service. There is a rotation-based schedule.

Communion Servers We celebrate the Lord's Supper every week in our Celebration Service.  If you'd be interested in helping prepare and serve communion on a rotating schedule, let us know.

If you'd like to serve in one of these areas, you can let us know by filling out this form.  Thanks for being a servant of Christ at MCC!
